This in-camp training is from 21st Feb to 9th Mar Y2K. (I thought a very
tough one)
This is the 4th Thailand trip in my NS life..(very
phobia). Leave
S'pore on the night of 23/02/Y2K. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. The weather
is much hotter than here... very sickening. Nearly fall sick during the first
few days. Must drink plenty and plenty of water in order to survive there.....
There are 8 gunners in my detachment.
One battery
has 6 detachments. One battlelion has 3 batteries which make up a total of 18 guns. It provides a very good fire support to the frontline
forces.

Hi, is me the APU driver. One who put the gun (Howitzer)
into action with the help of my fellow gunners. This gun weights about 13 tons.
Fellow gunners taking a "tactical" rest in the 7-ton truck.
It's time
to rest... any position also can do.
In
one of the deployment ground. Everybody is very happy when this day 29/02/Y2K
arrives. As a precaution, there is no exercise on this day due to the Y2K
issues.
Some of us take photo beside the gun. We cook instant noodles for our
meals. Some of us brought cooking oil, eggs, some vegetables to cook during the
exercise.. as though we are having a picnic. (By the way, our combat ration
consists of instant noodles also. Much better than the last time. I mean that
time when police wear short-pants). Hope that the next in-camp training, we can
get to try different types of menu items. A
freak accident almost happened to our detachment. Luckily, the men are alert if
not 3men were out-of-action/seriously injured by the moving gun. A very
close shave to death. I sincerely apologize to the men who are nearly knock down
by the gun due to my action. Up till now I still remember this incident.
This 7-ton tower is very spacious. Only 7 of us sitting at the rear plus
keeping some stores. This truck is use to tow the gun while on the move.
For
your info, the attire is not what you see in the photo. The correct attire
should be strictly in training gear.
a relaxing moment...look what we have here.. instant
noodles. See the container right in front, it contain water but isn't consumable.
It meant for washing only.
Well.. for some reason we smile. Not b'cos we're in candid camera but is
makan time. The 2 malayu in front, is our chief thru out this training. Thumbs
up for their hardwork.... cooking..lor.
Men in action. Those
" CBL" /cameraman better clear off as Firing is going to commence.
As you see, this guy with hand action, its me. This guy with half bend position
is our beloved Commander (a very big shot in our detachment). Everybody got to
listen to his command. A live ammunition (weights 45kg) is loaded into the
chamber, they are checking whether the ammunition is safely ram into the
chamber.
"Shacking steven" in this deployment ground. Action front the gun
twice 'cos the previous position is too close to the other gun claim a "very very
big big shot" man who happen to cruise by our battery. Thanks to those offer
their helps while other is resting.
Everybody post by the side of the gun with each of us
licking ice-cream. Imagine the weather is x10 times hotter than S'pore. This day
is our last day of exercise.
In a mood of taking picture. With some guys from other detachment. OK..the
guy with a jockey cap and is squading down is me..like as if going for (SBC) photo
auditing.
Another picture taken at the gun position.
my
detachment beside the gun. Awaiting for another mission.
A happy family.. most of us are here to post in front of the camera. Very
rare to get all the men to get together but only for this moment..
Finally,
the moment has come.. SOP standard a dinner after a very "SHACKING
STEVEN" exercise. A smile means a thousand words.
Our detachment foto. A lasting memories for some of us until the next
"get together" in about 2-3years time. Till then we will meet again.
Hope so.
the
same old places we'd visited before and not much of foto taking. Wonder whether
"somebody" has feedback to "somebody" regarding the
places the men visited before ? is a Wasting tax-payer monies. why not
send back the men immediately after the exercise. many men would agree to
that..
one of the places we visited during our two days of R&R. Who say Cina and
Malayu do not click. Yes, we do. No racist here.
Remember SAF....
